Community Climate Action

Building Capacity for Climate Resilience and Community Wellbeing

Led by Cultivate, in partnership with the Tipperary PPN, South Tipperary Development Company, and North Tipperary Development Company, the Community Climate Coach (CCC) Project was a pioneering pilot initiative empowering local leaders to facilitate community-led climate action across County Tipperary.

Supported by the Government of Ireland’s  Community Climate Action Programme (Strand 2), this project ran from January 2023 to June 2024, training a network of local facilitators to act as Community Climate Coaches. These coaches support their communities in building climate resilience, strengthening wellbeing, and catalysing a fair transition to sustainability.

The project established four Community Climate Hubs, each hosting a series of community engagement sessions focused on:

▪︎ Deepening connection with nature and place

▪︎ Identifying community strengths

▪︎ Facilitating climate and wellbeing conversations

▪︎ Mapping community-led and place based projects

This work is grounded in the Two Wave Framework developed with European partners to support transformative change at the local level.

Facilitating Community Wellbeing and Climate Resilience

Are you part of a Local Development Company, Public Participation Network (PPN), Local Authority, or a community network seeking to support communities in responding more effectively to the climate and ecological crises?

Cultivate invites you to explore our “Facilitating Community Wellbeing and Climate Resilience” training—a hands-on programme tailored to empower local leaders and facilitators.

This training builds capacity for leading change in climate action, biodiversity, circular economy, social inclusion, community development, and smart village initiatives. It draws on the Community Climate Coach (CCC) model and can be adapted to your context.

We’ve already partnered with SECAD, West Limerick Resources, and international projects through ECOLISE. If you’re interested in incorporating this training or the CCC Framework into your work or would like to discuss collaboration, get in touch. Let’s work together to grow local resilience and wellbeing.

Developing Community Climate Coaching in Europe

Cultivate led the European-wide ERASMUS+ funded Community Climate Coaches (CCC) project, which ran from [December 2020 – March 2023. The project developed frameworks, toolkits and training for facilitators and community catalysts to engage local communities..

The partners included Permaculture Association of Britain (UK), Ecolise (Belgium), CELL (Luxembourg), Resilience Earth (Spain), Finland Villages Assoc, Permaculture Croatia, and University of Lisbon.

Cultivate continues to collaborate with ECOLISE and our European partners to evolve and implement the Community Climate Coach (CCC) approach in communities across Europe. This ongoing work focuses on adapting the CCC model to diverse local contexts, supporting community-led initiatives, and strengthening the role of local facilitators in catalysing climate action, ecological regeneration, and community wellbeing. Through training, mentoring, and knowledge exchange, we are helping to embed the CCC approach within broader European programmes, ensuring it remains a powerful tool for grassroots resilience building and systemic transformation.
