Community-led Housing

Cultivate’s Davie Philip facilitated the workshops in a 12-month multi-stakeholder research project led by SOA Research CLG, Roadmapping A Viable Community-Led Housing Sector For Ireland. This initiative was supported by The Housing Agency, The Land Development Agency, Ó Cualann Cohousing Alliance and the Goethe Institute Ireland.

The launch event in May 2021 was hosted on-line by the Land Agency with Davie Philip facilitating the proceedings, which can be viewed here.  The final publication, ‘Roadmapping a Viable Community-Led Housing Sector for Ireland,’ comprises a series of handbooks offering guidance in the areas of Policy, Finance, Land and ‘Getting Your Group Ready’, the publications can be downloaded here.

A core element of the research methodology was a multi-stakeholder process which engaged a wide range of key stakeholders in a Community of Practice (CoP). Davie Philip coordinated eight Irish Community-Led Housing groups that were invited to participate as stakeholders in this project through a CoP.  These projects are based in eight different counties, and represent a range of approaches including housing cooperatives, cohousing, Community Land Trusts and self-help housing.
