March 2015 Newsletter Introduction

Dear Cultivators,

Thanks for subscribing to our monthly update and hearing what we are up to and what courses and events are coming up. The Cultivate team have been busy. We recently moved into the new WeCreate Workspace in Cloughjordan Ecovillage where we have an office and host courses. We are also working to animate the co-working space and assisting other groups who are using the centre to organise and facilitate their events.

Cultivate recently joined ECOLISE, a new European networking organisation bringing together members from all of the main movements engaged in community-led action on climate change and sustainability, including the Ecovillage, Permaculture, and Transition Towns movement.

This year we are planning our 20th Convergence sustainability festival and will have more details in our next update. The theme will touch on community ownership and how cooperatives can strengthen the resilience of our communities. Cultivate, officially the Sustainable Ireland Cooperative Society Ltd, has been supporting cooperatives during our 15 year history. Last year our Convergence, Open Everything, looked at the potential of a commons and cooperative approach to making our communities more sustainable.

Last month we joined the Plunkett Foundation and are working with a task force of Irish cooperative advocates to bring the legacy of Horace Plunkett back to Ireland. View here a video of the session by Peter Couchman, the CEO of Plunkett Foundation, from the Open Everything event last year explaining that legacy. For more on Plunkett and the task force see this website

Cultivate is also working on an exciting European funded education project with five partners from across Europe called ‘Schools for Resilience’. This project is a competency-based learning programme for Transition Year students and will be piloted later this year. If you are involved in a school or a Transition Year programme and are interested, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Below you'll find details about upcoming courses and events. I hope we will see you at one of our events or courses soon.
