This is the 10th year Cultivate, the collective based in Cloughjordan, brings you the Electric Picnic’s colourful pop-up eco-village of green ideas, nourishment and inspiration. Global Green is the conscious heartbeat of the Electric Picnic, where you’ll find activists, artists, makers, musicians, foodies, poets and over 30 groups from across Ireland. Join us on the green edge of the festival to experience brilliant new music, eat glorious local food and encounter transformational ideas and conversations for a healthy and resilient future.

Eat, get inspired and add your voice at SpeakEATsy, a solar powered heady brew of food, poetry, compelling conversations and music. By day, experience a rich programme of talks and discussions focused on climate action and the Global Goals, peppered throughout with spoken word and music. At tea time each day there will be a sit down dinner and entertainment, and late into the night, SpeakEATsy hosts cabaret, comedy, chilled-out tunes and films with piping hot chai tea and cake. This convivial experience is far more than the sum of its parts, it’s a confluence of influences and inspirations - a full sensory and intellectual workout!

PARTY TIME! 

THE GLOBAL GREEN AND B.Y.E ‘BE YOUR ENVIRONMENT’ 10th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

At 5pm on Sunday evening we will be celebrating 10 years of a green presence on this edge of the Electric Picnic with surprises, cake and DJs. For a decade Cultivate have been coordinating Global Green and BeYourEnvironment have been getting nifty with the bins and encouraging Picnickers to step up and take responsibility for their own waste. If you have a BYE t-shirt wear it and join us for a green hooley on Global Green. The celebrations will continue at the SpeakEATsy Special at 6pm and after midnight in the Village Hall.

Village Hall
At the heart of the Global Green is the Village Hall. Here we serve up an eclectic mix of live music, dance, DJs, and talks.  Some of our previous highlights include, Saint Sister, Lethal Dialect (aka Paul Alwright), Hozier and even Michael D Higgins! This year we’ve some treats in store: Dublin’s finest Electronic Producer SENU will bring his full band show to the stage, dreamy pop-folk  Aural Air,  Multilingual Folk of Che Guevara Lynch's Jukebox and world class kecapi player from East Java Tommee Balukea. We’ll have dark alt pop multi-instrumentalist Chirpy, minimal ambient textures from Irish composer Gareth Quinn Redmond and a special dance performance from, Fionnuala - The Dancing Snowflakes (adapted from the Children of Lir story) We have the legendary actor/musician Patrick Bergin and the Dominic Street Ramblers and many more. We’ll even have a screening of a recent TED talk from our very own Davie Philip! We keep the party going late into the night, so keep it locked on the Village Hall.

Community Garden & Village Green
Rest your weary roots and shoots in Community Gardens Ireland’s ‘pop-up' community garden. Green your fingers and get the mycelium running with growers from OURganic Gardens, Green Side Up, Dublin Community Growers, East Clare Community Co-Op and the Urban Farm.

WeCreate FabLab from Cloughjordan Ecovillage will be showcasing digital fabrication. Rest up in the Grow Dome and check out the open source bee hives and wormeries. Choose your cause at the Cultivate tent and wear it proudly with a non permanent tattoo.

On the green over 20 collectives and organisations will be highlighting the climate action and engagement with the Global Goals.
Dive into bike culture with the Dublin Cycling Campaign and the Irish Cycling Advocacy Network.
Witness first-hand the technologies and organisations accelerating the transition to renewable energy at Community Power - Global Green’s Solar Salon and CoderDojo. Here you will meet the community and energy pioneers and see the technology in action.
Play rustic games, Connect 4 Resilience and get grooving on the green with the solar powered Little Green Disco.
Enjoy the best coffee and food from our award winning food providers the Market Kitchen and Revel Coffee.
The Night Orchard from Cloughjordan will be running the SpeakEATsy Café offering a sit-down dinner each evening at 6pm and open late for chai and snacks.
Engage with the worldwide promise of the Global Goals in “Around the World in 80 Actions" from international development organisation Self Help Africa.  Score a #dizzygoal to symbolise your commitment to the achievement of the Global Goals and find out about volunteering overseas with Irish Aid.
With performance, exhibits, information, a late night fire pit and curiosities of all sorts makes Global Green a unique festival experience. Whether you want to dance, eat, get involved, inform yourself or just chill out, this green oasis is a must-visit over the festival weekend.

A hands on Didgeridoo workshop with Ita, the didge guy. Learn the story of the instruments and the people who used it first, how to play and "sing " the first rhythms.

Saturday 2pm & Sunday 3pm 
- AFRICAN DRUMMING WITH INIKÉ

Get a taste of the culture of West Africa with this drum workshop with Shiv Ross. A fun introductory workshop where you learn how to play a traditional rhythm from West Africa...no experience necessary, open to everyone!

13.00 MIND WAVE   

How waves, and the waves we choose to ride, shape our mind. Energy moves in pulsing, rhythmic waves. We are surrounded by waves - sound waves, ocean waves, gamma waves… In this engaging workshop we explore ‘mind waves'. Learn about the effect of being in nature, especially water, on the brain from psychotherapist NC Britton and her daughter, surfer-scientist Easkey Britton. (GLOBAL  GOAL 3, 11, 14, 15)

14.00 TRANSFORMING OUR WORLD   

Ireland played a leading role in the process that led to the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals at the UN in 2015. The Goals will shape the approach to fighting hunger, poverty and climate change by 2030. The implementation of the Goals is now the responsibility of everyone and Irish Aid, Self Help Africa and Concern will explore ways in which this can be done by everyone across all sections of society.  (GLOBAL  GOAL 1,2, 4, 13, 17)(SM Release)

15.00 FIGHTING INEQUALITIES - MAKING IRELAND SUSTAINABLE FOR ALL   

Raising  awareness on the SDGs at local level and engaging festival goers in practical actions for the implementation of the Global Goals.  Hosted by Davie Philip, Cultivate and a facilitation team from Concern. Supported by Make Ireland Sustainable for All, part of the EU–funded project ‘Make Europe Sustainable For All’, a three-year project aiming to raise awareness and encourage action to be taken on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.  (GLOBAL  GOAL 5, 8, 10, 13)



15.40 VOICES RISING

Spoken Word on range of social issues, in a manner that is dynamic, entertaining and often moving, with Mel White, winner of the Eigse Michael Hartnett Poetry Slam 2017 and Cuirt Festival of Literature Poetry Slam 2016.



16.10 RESILIENCE WITH REAL BREAD   

Riot Rye’s radical baker Joe Fitzmaurice introduces the importance of heritage grains & sourdough breads in addressing hunger, sustainable agriculture and climate action. He will explain what of landrace grains are, share some of his award winning bread and give away free sourdough starters. (GLOBAL  GOAL 1, 3, 15)

Making a shift to a clean, secure energy future where citizens and communities are active participants in the generation and distribution of renewable energy is underway. Davie Philip and Ollie Moore from Cloughjordan Ecovillage host this convivial session where we share food & conversation, with music and spoken word. The highlight of this event will be the tunes from Hammond Sisters, Mel White and some very special guests discussing the topic of REGEN VS VEGAN. This is the core food and environment battle of our times  - but where is the common ground? Regenerative agriculture and vegan production how can we work together? 14.45 SOLIDARITY & GETTING INVOLVED 

Did you know there are fantastic opportunities out there for young people to travel around Europe and further afield, getting involved in great projects run by inspiring people? Nora Furlong from Leargas introduces the European Solidarity Corps Programme which creates opportunities for young people to volunteer, work and learn all over Europe. A member of the Irish Aid Rapid Response Corps will also outline their work and explain how the public can get involved in volunteering overseas.  (GLOBAL  GOAL 5, 10, 13)
