Health & Spirit

Cultivate ran a great number of Health and Consciousness related events, especially during its tenure in the West End of Temple Bar.  Here are some of the events.

Kirtan Singing with the Natural Mystic Orchestra

A Part of Cultivate's Second Health & Yoga Day

Saturday November 22nd  | Workshop from 10:00 - 11:00 | €Price: included in Health & Yoga Day

Want to sing your beautiful big heart out? Feeling the need for some good chillin', lovin'  vibes? Then come along and experience the joys of singing Kirtan with musical accompaniment in a relaxed atmosphere. No singing experience necessary - just show up and give it a go, joining in when you can!

It couldn't be easier - you don't even have to know the songs, and the words will be provided. The songs vary from rockin' up-tempo numbers to meditative melodic mantras.

Kirtan, a form of Bhakti Yoga (the yoga of devotion), is a call-and-response form of singing Sanskrit mantras: a bit like communal karaoke where the songs are lead and everyone sings together. Repeating these sanskrit sounds creates a very joyful, uplifting vibration in us, bringing us into a more direct experience of the Divine within ourselves.

Go on: treat yourself! It's easy - no stretching involved - it's light-hearted, it's'd be mad not to!

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Sanskrit Chanting with Richard Stone

A Part of Cultivate's Second Health & Yoga Day

Saturday November 22nd | Workshop from 12.30 - 1.30 pm | €Price: included in Health & Yoga Day

Using the power of sound and mantras to change how you feel: instantly!

This is an experiential workshop, where you will learn through your own experience how different sounds affect your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.  This gives you a simple tool you can use to change how you feel in an instant so that you can become calm, or focused, or energised, or whatever you require, as appropriate to the situation.

Sound has an amazing quality of deeply connecting us with our bodies and keeping us grounded and present. When we chant together as a group, we create a harmonious space where we can really feel, hear and embody the sounds we make, even while we experience expanded states of being.

Suitable for beginners and anyone who wants to explore the transformative effects of sound in the body. You don’t have to be a singer to enjoy chanting!

Mantra Meditation with Praghosa

A Part of Cultivate's Second Health & Yoga Day

In this workshop, Praghosa, from the Govinda restaurant chain, will explore in a simple, humorous and light-hearted fashion the advanced philosophy behind mantra meditation.  This event also includes Kirtan - sacred chant music.

In Sanskrit man means 'mind' and tra means 'to release' or 'to free'.

Mantra chanting is an ancient method of clearing the mind and promoting mental strength and spiritual equilibrium. Mantra meditation may be practiced either silently, using mala (beads), or as singing in a group along with musical accompaniment.

The Mastery of Love With Sheila De Butiler

Envisioning A New Relationship With Ourselves, With Others and With The Earth

A Part of Cultivate's Second Health & Yoga Day

Saturday November 22nd  | Workshop from 12.45 - 1.45pm | €Price: included in Health & Yoga Day

Based on the book by don Miguel Ruiz, author of "The Four Agreements"

In The Mastery of Love, Sheila examines the fear-based beliefs and assumptions that undermine love and lead to suffering and drama in our relationships. Using teachings from the three Toltec Masteries — Awareness, Transformation, and Love — as a foundation, she exposes the fallacies and misplaced expectations about love that permeate most relationships. She shares her wisdom through delightful and engaging stories that clarify each point and bring her message to life. Some of the themes the book explores include the destructive war of control; why domestication and the image of perfection lead to self-rejection; the dual tracks of fear and love; body needs versus mind needs; and how to finally accept and forgive ourselves and others.

Open To Grace - Anusara Influenced Hatha Yoga with Frank Brooks

A Part of Cultivate's Second Health & Yoga Day

Saturday November 22nd | Workshop from 12.45 - 13.45 pm | €Price: included in Health & Yoga Day

So often in our yoga practice we put self effort first. We get on the mat and we immediately begin our practice without pausing to remember what it is all about. We sometimes forget the bigger picture.

The first principle of Anusara Yoga is to Open To Grace. There are different ways to Open To Grace at the start of our practice. We can pause and reflect on why we are doing the practice. We can chant OM and connect with the universal energy that pulsates around us and through us. We can set an intention for our practice which helps to dissolve the limited concept that we hold of ourselves.

We can chant the Anusara Invocation and open our hearts. We can close our eyes, bring our attention to our breath and feel the skin on our face, allowing our boundaries to soften. We can attune to the energy which surrounds and supports us. All of these help to Open us to Grace, to bring us into alignment with the currents of grace and to leave us more open to receiving grace.

As we continue through our practice, we can continue to open to grace. In every asana, we can pause and reflect before applying self effort. Initially self effort tends to be contractive in nature, as we draw energy into our core. Before self effort and contraction we can open to grace and expand. We can soften the skin on our face, open our heart and soften our boundaries. We can have a feeling of expansiveness in the upper body, sometimes referred to as "Inner Body Bright".  We can mindfully set the foundation of our pose. This helps to keep us connected to the universal energy, the currents of grace. These ideas connect us to the principle of Opening To Grace.

In this workshop we will Open To Grace, at the beginning of our practice and with each asana throughout the practice.

In this workshop we will simply look at sitting and apply the principles to this activity. so that you have something to explore for yourself. How does my body behave in a chair? Where do I find support? Am I doing too much to just sit here?

Change The Dream Symposia

Change the Dream is a symposium developed originally by the Pachamama alliance in the US and taken up by 'Be the Change' in the UK.  It has a one day format.  Its purpose is to bring together the agendas of ecological sustainability, social justice and spiritual fulfillment and its origins lie with the Achuar people from the Ecuadorean Amazon who have asked people in the North to change our dream because otherwise we are all in big trouble !
In Ireland, Change the Dream symposia are being offered by four Sisters of Mercy (their September programme is 6 September - Dun Laoghaire, 13 September Carlow, 20 September Nenagh and 27 September in Naas.  For further details and bookings contact Maeve on 045 876 784).
Plans are well advanced to offer facilitator training for the symposium to people in Ireland.  This might be a particularly good fit for people involved in transition initiatives, as another outreach format to add to all the others.  Dates are still to be confirmed and further details will be sent out as soon as they are available.  If you would like further information, please contact Chris Chapman at This email address is being protected from spambots. The sports/muscle injury treatment lasts for 30 minutes.  It is done fully clothed on a chair.  The normal price for this treatment is €65 but the Health & Yoga Day special cost is €30 per person!  Recognised by VHI, Quinn Direct and Hibernian.

Amatsu with Rebekka

Saturday November 22nd | Treatments from 9.30 am - 1.30pm | Promotional rate of €20 for 30 minute treatment | Book at the Yoga Dublin stall or by contacting Rebekka (see below)

Amatsu is a gentle form of body therapy utilising natural movement principles and includes Osteopathic, Cranial and Cranio-Sacral techniques. It was brought from Japan and has its roots in the Ninjitsu martial arts.

What the Amatsu treatment involves: During an Amatsu treatment specific areas of the body are gently pushed and pulled to release tension and tightness, thereby restoring the normal flow of blood and lymph to promote growth, repair and restoration of normal function. It focuses on the head (cranium and neck), spine/pelvis and the feet to bring about symmetry and paralateral movement. Therefore all treatments re- align and re-balance the person from head to toe, whilst balancing the meridian circuits of the body and the intrinsic cranio-sacral system. This results in a restoration of symmetry and a boost to homeostasis (immune system) with a reduction of body strains.

Making Peace with the Now with Maya Ben-Harosh

A Part of Cultivate's Second Health & Yoga Day

Saturday November 22nd | Workshop from 10.15 - 11.15 pm | €Price: included in Health & Yoga Day

In this workshop we will explore the 'Law of Attraction' as taught by Abraham-Hicks with an emphasis on the very first step to achieving any new platform on any given subject: Making Peace with what is.

Many people think that if we stop fighting against what's wrong in our life, we'll just allow it to continue and we'll never experience anything better. When in fact, the opposite is true.

According to most of the 'spiritual' teachers from around the world that I came across, the more we can cultivate a sense of Peace within us, the more Joy and Love are allowed by us, to bubble up to the surface of our consciousness.
But, how do we cultivate Peace? In our time together I will suggest to you a technique I have used with great success in order to do just that. It is just a little taster for you to get acquainted with 'The Work' by Byron Katie. A life-transforming method of examining your belief system and putting it to the test against four simple questions and a turn-around. The results, when the method is applied correctly, can often be shockingly transformational and beautifully life-affirming.
