Practicing Yoga postures together with a partner brings refinement, beauty and strength to the relationship, uplifting our souls. It can open us up to the possibility of deep genuine communication within the couple, enhancing the intimacy, trust and connection between the partners. It is an especially wonderful opportunity for lovers to reach superior levels of harmony in their relationship. The heart of this practice is love.

About polarity:
Yoga teaches us that everything in life is energy. Every type of energy has two poles, a receptive/emissive element, a plus/minus aspect, a yin/yang. Hatha Yoga literally means ‘the Union of the Sun & the Moon’.

By uniting these polar energies within our own being we achieve inner force and radiant harmony. Man by his nature has a predominance of solar, yang energy, and Woman by her nature has a predominance of lunar, yin energy. Thus, when we practice Yoga postures together the energies flow between the two human beings creating many unifying, beneficial effects within the couple.

Saturday, 7th February 2009 | 17:00 - 18:30 | Garden-View Classroom  | €Price: included in Kick-Start 2009

Dancing The Rainbow is a Movement, Sound and Colour Therapy Practice that works primarily with the physical body and then the more subtle energy bodies.

This Dancing The Rainbow workshop for Kick-Start will give a practical flavour of how to ground in red, work with the emotional and creative body in orange, improve boundaries in yellow, open your heart to yourself and others in green and pink and then go on to discover the attributes in the other colours – the still prayerful energy of the crown as opposed to the focused active energy of the solar plexus.

We allow the body to move from the inside out. Our aim is to be truthful in our expression of ourselves through dance, at all times being mindful of our own physical well-being.

Rest may be taken at any time where there will be a space for you to paint or draw.

Maria Hayden is a Dancing The Rainbow Teacher, Actor, Reiki Master, Teacher and Practitioner and Integrated Energy Therapist.

In a couple of hours you'll learn to change any habit that you may have been wanting to, but haven't been able to change.

Most people think it's hard to change habits.
They've tried and and they've failed and they conclude 'it's not possible.'
But what if it wasn't that hard?
What if the real problem was a lack of a way that worked?
How would you ever find the sunset if you were walking East?
What if you could learn an approach which  is easy and which obviously  works?
Would that interest you? That is exactly what the session is about."

"In their love, worldly lovers forget about the whole world. Spiritual lovers, through love for each other, arrive at love for the whole world."
Aba Aziz Makaja

Love is the beginning and the end of all spiritual development: at the beginning of the path a person is a Bhakta (Lover) and at the end of the path a person is a Maha-Bhakta (Cosmic-Lover), the Hindu Vaishnavas say.  From a compassion encompassing the highest insight and wisdom, the Buddhist Bodhisattva determines his or her actions.  Love your neighbours as yourself, the Christians say.

Saturday, 2nd May 2009 | 12:15 - 1:30pm  | Classroom 11

Tai Chi Chuan (better known as Tai Chi) is an ancient Chinese form of co-ordinated body movements, focusing on cultivation of internal energy (called ‘Chi’). It aims to harmonise mind, body and spirit, prompting mental and physical well-being through softness and relaxation. It is also an effective system of self-defence.  When practised correctly, the Tai Chi movements (or Form) seem rhythmical and effortless, forming a continuous flow. Unlike most sports and forms of exercise, Tai Chi Chuan does not rely on strength or speed, making it ideal for people of both sexes, young and old. It is truly a unique art.

Value To Health
With a small amount of practice, Tai Chi will:

  • relax and revitalise mind and body, helping you to combat the stress of modern life
  • gently tone and strengthen muscles
  • improve balance and posture
  • build self-confidence and tolerance
  • ease medical conditions, such as respiratory, cardiovascular and digestive disorders

Claire’s training in Yoga and Bodywork add to her depth of knowledge from years of study of various movement disciplines, to create a completely unique form of Movement practice that she has been teaching for the past 8 years. Her movement work is inspired by her training with many internationally renowned teachers, especially with Suprapto Surydarmo (Buddhist movement meditation master from Indonesia) with whom she has studied since 1997. She is presently the only person resident in Ireland on his list of teachers.

She studied movement and communication and movement in landscape for 8 years with Sandra reeves (UK) and completed the ‘Body and Earth’ training in 2007, with Andrea Olsen and Caryn Mchose from USA.

Your baby's behaviour will be more 'settled'. It provides a daily routine of activity through which you can engage constructively with your baby from birth.

PHYSIOLOGICAL /DEVELOPMENTAL
All your baby's bodily systems are stimulated, including the digestive and nervous systems.

PSYCHOLOGICAL
Baby yoga helps you and your baby get to know each other, enhancing communication between you. Yoga helps to heal any birth trauma; your baby will also be better equipped to deal with shocks. Your baby's enjoyment of the positive stress of yoga will increase her ability to cope with future challenges. Yhrough the high quality of the attention she receives from her parents, your baby learns to interact with others and play actively.  Yhe deep relaxation that is part of yoga helps parents cope with the stresses of early parenting.

Yoga with Tom Butler

Saturday 6th June 2009 | 12:00 - 1:15pm | Classroom 11 | €Included in ticket for 3rd Health & Yoga Day | Cultivate Centre | Book online or ring 01 674 5773

Tom Butler holds a degree in contemporary dance, from the Northern School of contemporary Dance in Leeds, UK. His interest in yoga stems from his dance background. He has undertaken a two-year yoga teacher training course with the YTTC.

In his workshop Tom focuses on a flowing style, co-ordinating breath and movement. He emphasises the joy of movement and gets students to release tension where not needed.

Tom says "For me it is very important that students are warmed up very well before posture work, something which I have found to be lacking in a lot of yoga classes I have attended(except Bikram!).  Ive studied Anatomy and Physiology and hold a teaching cert from the Royal Ballet in London. I'm a fairly new Yoga teacher and do not claim to have any spiritual credence over anyone else. My knowledge lies in posture and alignment and efficient movement. I try to bring as much knowledge to each class I teach. I think imagination is key to grasping the postures and use some visualisation when teaching. So that's kinda me in a nutshell."

Synergy Dance with Danielle

A part of Cultivate's Kick-Start 2009

Saturday, 7th February 2009 | 11:45 - 13:15 | Classroom  4/5  | €Price: included in Kick-Start 2009

Danielle Vierling, a native Californian, has been exploring dance forms -- ballet, contemporary, Celtic, African, Latin, Middle Eastern and Indian for 35 years. She was certified to teach SynergyDance in 1996 and has been holding classes and workshops in Dublin, Ireland ever since. During her SynergyDance & Yoga sessions, Danielle channels Divine Light, Love, and Wisdom to allow movement to be guided spontaneously and perfectly suited to each group.  A typical class involves a gentle flowing yoga warm-up followed by expressive unself-conscious movement around the space, and wind-down into stillness, all to inspiring world music.

Author Marian Keyes in her novel Under the Duvet, April 2004, writes of her experience at a SynergyDance class with Danielle… “If you’re interested in alternative spirituality, you’ll probably love SynergyDance. Even if alternative spirituality isn’t your bag (man), you can really enjoy yourself if you leave your cynicism at the door…The atmosphere was upbeat and, feel-good and, apart from anything else, it’s a good workout …”

Victoria Mary Clarke recently wrote of Danielle in the Sunday Independent, November 2008, “I have been to her classes and they are extremely uplifting and don’t require you to learn any steps, or wear any special clothes.”

So come along and kick out those winter bugs and blues with this heart-leaping, energy swirling SynergyDance workshop!

Danielle will be holding a new series of SynergyDance sessions at the Olive Tree Studio, 15 Grantham Street/off Camden Street (see www.olivetreedublim.com ), every third Sunday of the month commencing 15th February and extending to 20th December 2009.

Why do Kirtan? It's fun, it has a deep feel-good factor, it gives a spiritual boost and it's easy. Kirtan can be practised by absolutely anyone, and it's new (at least in Dublin!).

You don't have to stretch or strain: simply sing along, and if you're too shy to sing, just listen. So, really, everyone is covered. And when you get into it more, clap your hands to the rhythm. We have a song-board with the lyrics of the Maha-Mantra, so you can't go wrong.

Kirtan was reintroduced to India in the early 16th century by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and introduced to the West in 1966 by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. After hearing Prabhupada chant, John Lennon and George Harrison of the Beatles – the most successful musical group in history – explored the amazing world of Kirtan:

Kirtan Singing with Richard Stone

Part of the 3rd Health & Yoga Day

Saturday 6th June 2009 | 3:45 - 4:45pm |  Classroom 7 | €Included in ticket for 3rd Health & Yoga Day | Cultivate Centre | Book online or ring 01 674 5773

Want to sing your beautiful big heart out? Feeling the need for some good chillin', lovin'  vibes? Then come along and experience the joys of singing Kirtan with musical accompaniment in a relaxed atmosphere. No singing experience necessary - just show up and give it a go, joining in when you can!

It couldn't be easier - you don't even have to know the songs, and the words will be provided. The songs vary from rockin' up-tempo numbers to meditative melodic mantras.

Kirtan, a form of Bhakti Yoga (the yoga of devotion), is a call-and-response form of singing Sanskrit mantras: a bit like communal karaoke where the songs are lead and everyone sings together. Repeating these sanskrit sounds creates a very joyful, uplifting vibration in us, bringing us into a more direct experience of the Divine within ourselves.

Go on: treat yourself! It's easy - no stretching involved - it's light-hearted, it's fun.....you'd be mad not to!

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Saturday 6th June 2009 | 4:45 - 6:00pm |  Classroom 8 | €Included in ticket for 3rd Health & Yoga Day | Cultivate Centre | Book online or ring 01 674 5773

Yoga and Tantra form the primary basis of the Indian spirituality. Many things have been written about these Spiritual Traditions, but due to their depth and hidden symbolism, they remain largely unknown to the West. Being concealed along the ages, Tantra remains diffuse, mysterious and enigmatic.

Alike all genuine Spiritual disciplines the goal in Tantra is to reach the Supreme Happiness but unlike most systems the approach is not by means of asceticism, whereby the physical body or desires are rejected. On the contrary, Tantra is a way of acceptance, pleasure and bliss. It embraces all aspects of life.

The Mastery of Love With Sheila Babikian

Envisioning A New Relationship With Ourselves, With Others and With The Earth

A Part of Cultivate's Health & Yoga Day

Saturday June 21st | Workshop from 12 - 1pm | €Price: included in Health & Yoga Day

Based on the book by don Miguel Ruiz, author of "The Four Agreements"

In The Mastery of Love, Sheila examines the fear-based beliefs and assumptions that undermine love and lead to suffering and drama in our relationships. Using teachings from the three Toltec Masteries — Awareness, Transformation, and Love — as a foundation, she exposes the fallacies and misplaced expectations about love that permeate most relationships. She shares her wisdom through delightful and engaging stories that clarify each point and bring her message to life. Some of the themes the book explores include the destructive war of control; why domestication and the image of perfection lead to self-rejection; the dual tracks of fear and love; body needs versus mind needs; and how to finally accept and forgive ourselves and others.

A Talk & Demonstration

A Part of Cultivate's Second Health & Yoga Day

Saturday November 22nd  | Workshop from 15:15 - 16:15 | €Price: included in Health & Yoga Day

Nowadays yoga is famous rather than known. Only few people genuinely understand yoga and even fewer practice it correctly obtaining benefits from it. We can say that the original secret and primary keys to this system have been lost.

For example, the physical postures (asanas) of the Hatha Yoga practice are often considered merely as bodily exercises but in Tantra it is known that the asanas are very accurate and complex procedures of accumulating certain types of energy at specific levels of our being (read more).

In this workshop we will briefly outline the fundamental principles upon which Hatha Yoga, as it was traditionally taught, is based upon allowing a deeper insight into how Yoga actually works. From this perspective we learn that it is the harmonious energising of all the chakras which is the fundamental key for having perfect physical and mental health, for awakening the latent powers of the mind and for accelerating the spiritual evolution. In this way, one realises a complete opening towards the Universe and total access to the energetic environment. And from then on, the human being participates in the Eternal Life of the Universe in the same way that a drop of water participates in the life of the ocean.
