All Day Dance Event Gave Participants Chance to Sample Many Styles
Cultivate’s Kick-Start 09 on Feb 7th was replete with workshops from some of Ireland's best instructors in Tango, Salsa, 5Rhythms, Capoeira, Swing, Charleston, Bellydance, Journey Dance, Indian Classical Dance, Tai Chi, Hatha Yoga, Synergy Dance and more.
Participants at Kick-Start 09 spent a long day dancing, getting their feet wet in various dance styles and movement meditations while sampling the various teachers and clubs that offer classes in Dublin and elsewhere around the island.
The 13-hour event was held on Saturday, February 7th at Temple Bar’s Cultivate Centre. Most workshops were 1 ½ hours each and for those who still had energy left, the day was capped with an exhilarating Céilí called by Jimmy Brennan.
The caliber of the instruction was uncompromising. For example, one of the Bellydancing workshops was taught by Valerie Larkin who's appeared on RTE1 primetime, The Late Late Show with Gay Byrne, The Gerry Ryan Show and so on. Her dancing has taken her to Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Greece, Brazil and the UK.
Participants enjoyed the craziness and beauty of Swing, the sensual interaction and rhythmic footwork of Tango, a journey from flowing to staccato, chaos to stillness, of the 5Rhythms and the gyrations of Bellydance. Others got more grounded with martial styles that include Capoeira and Tai Chi or uplifted by Indian Classical or Shamanic Dance. These are just some of the choices people made to get the year started on the right foot.
Valerie remarked “PLEASE O PLEASE do another day like... Kickstart - it was amazing - everyone loved it and you would definitely fill it again!! Thank you so much! Well done on the brilliant organising!!"
