Concerned about the world's state of affairs? Wish you could make a change? Yes, you can! Learn the practical skills to design and build your own Natural Home in just 6 days.
Deirdre and Andrew moved to the ecovillage in Cloughjordan to build a low-impact eco-house using minimal machinery. The lower part of their curvy little 2-bedroom house is made from hand mixed cob.
The next stage will involve: building with cob and strawbale, clay plastering, attaching timber lintels and sills, and inserting windows.
This primarily hands-on course will also cover the following in detail:
- site selection and design
- how to approach planning permission
- site preparation
- tool care and maintenance
- material acquisition
- drainage and foundations
- natural wall systems
- windows
- doors
- niches
- cob sculpture
- built-in furniture
- basic woodworking
- earthen floors
- roofing
- plasters, paints and finishes
Building experience, though welcome, is not essential.
