This lecture explores the possibility of a Green New Deal for Ireland.
The speakers include Colin Hines who first developed the idea in the report “A Green New Deal” published in UK in July 2008. Also on the panel are John Barry, Queens University, School of Politics, International Studies and Philosophy, Peadar Kirby, Professor of International Politics and Public Policy, University of Limerick and Paul Allen, Outreach Director at the Centre for Alternative Technology, Wales and author of the ‘Zero Carbon Britain’ report. This event will be facilitated by Brendan Halligan, Board Chairperson of Sustainable Energy Ireland, CEO of CIPA Consulting and former General Secretary of the Labour Party.
The economic model of a Green New Deal, advanced by many including Barack Obama, would see millions of jobs created by investing in renewable energy sources, making homes and transport more energy efficient and introducing a range of measures to reduce our carbon emissions.
